Selective Oral Contraceptives
Our pharmacists are qualified to prescribe selective oral contraceptive pills wihout a doctors prescription.
They will take your blood pressure and ask you some questions to make sure it is suitable for you.
Emergency Contraception
The Emergency Contraceptive Pill (ECP) is a form of female contraception that can be used after unprotected sex.
The ECP is approved to be taken up to 72 hours after sex (three days).

Sildenafil (Viagra) for Erectile Dysfunction
An effective treatment for erectile dysfunction (sildenafil) is available without a prescription.
Our pharmacists have undertaken additional training and are now able to dispense an effective treatment for erectile dysfunction without a prescription.
This treatment is only available to males with ED, between 35 and 70 years of age, who don’t smoke and who are in good health.
The consultation also involves a blood pressure check.
One of our pharmacists will work through a series of questions with you in our consulting room to ensure the treatment is suitable for you.
This process takes approximately 15 minutes.
If appropriate, you will then be able to purchase an effective ED treatment without a doctor’s prescription.
Once you have undertaken this full assessment, you will be able to continue to purchase sildenafil (Viagra) from Unichem Forte Pharmacy for a further 12 months – if you have no change in health.
You will be required after 12 months another full assessment will be required.
Urinary Tract Infection Treatment
Not all pharmacies provide this service, and that’s one more reason why Unichem Forté Pharmacy is like no other Pharmacy.
A urinary tract infection (UTI) can be very uncomfortable, and should be treated as soon as possible so it doesn’t develop into a more serious infection.
A UTI occurs when bacteria (usually from the bowel) enters the urinary tract via the urethra (the tube that goes from the bladder to the outside). The bacteria can cause infection in the urethra, the bladder or the kidneys.
The most common symptom of a UTI is a painful, burning sensation when passing urine.
Signs and symptoms of UTIs
Usually you’ll experience two or more of the following symptoms:
Pain, burning or stinging when passing urine
Needing to urinate often
Passing only a small amount of urine at a time
Having the sensation of incomplete emptying after urinating
Needing to urinate urgently (without much warning)
Discomfort just above the pubic area
Get in touch with one of our pharmcist's if you have any of the following symptoms:
Fever or a hot and cold feeling
Vomiting or feeling like you are going to vomit
Pain on the sides of the lower back (over the kidney area)
Smelly or cloudy urine
Blood in the urine
Unusual vaginal discharge
Feeling particularly unwell
If you have symptoms of a urinary tract infection, do not delay getting checked and starting a suitable treatment. If a UTI isn’t treated correctly the infection can spread to the kidneys and become more serious.
Antibiotics
If you meet certain criteria, our Pharmacist can give you an antibiotic called Trimethoprim, without a prescription. They’ll ask you a few questions to see if Trimethoprim is appropriate for you.

This is one of our newest services, but it’s already one of the most popular ones.
Make sure you give us your cellphone number when you drop off your prescription and we will send you free text reminder of when your prescriptions are due to be collected.

Bowel Screening
BowelScreen Aotearoa is a pharmacy-based bowel cancer awareness, education and screening program for the New Zealand community using a clinically proven, sensitive and reliable immunochemical faecal occult blood test.
Annual bowel cancer screening is recommended for both men and women -
Aged 45 and over
With no symptoms
With no personal or family history of bowel cancer or polyps.
The aim of screening is to find any polyps or to find cancer early when it is easier to treat and cure.
People experiencing symptoms or who have a personal/family history of bowel cancer or polyps are advised to discuss appropriate screening for the disease with their doctor.

Ear Piercing
Our team are able to pierce ears while you wait.
We use the Studex® System75 which is a modern and virtually silent ear piercing system that uses sterile single-use non-touch disposable cartridges. This system offers the optimum in hygiene and sterility. With this system, ears can be pierced gently with individually sealed, hypoallergenic studs. The ear piercing specialist inserts sterile cartridges into the system and touches neither the piercing stud nor the clasp during the piercing process. The piercing instrument does not touch the ear either.
